O’Sensei emphasized the moral and spiritual aspects of this art and the development of harmony and peace, and the idea of a martial art striving for peace and harmony is the most basic principle of Aikido.
Aikido is a Budo or “Martial Way”
Aikido practitioners train to integrate their body, mind, and spirit through practice of natural body movement (Tai Sabaki, Kokyo and Mai-Ai) principles and techniques.
There are no tournaments or competitions, and practice is conducted in a spirit of mutual respect between all practitioners.
In Aikido, we seek to protect the assailant while simultaneously neutralizing the will and ability to attack.
